Victoria Pitel

Born in Southern Africa, Victoria identifies as a hybrid as her heritage is of mixed cultures; Scottish-Australian and French-British. This has lead to her fascination of migratory patterns, hybrid identities and the human condition.

Through her figurative forms, Victoria investigates human conditions, and at times employs the practice of pit and smoke firing techniques, and the addition of fibers post-firing. These methods reflect influences of Victoria’s early years and a valued connection and collaboration between artists and materials, suggesting that the artistic exchange between the two offers endless opportunities.

Working from her studio in South Lismore NSW, Victoria explores concepts through developing new works whilst facilitating workshops locally and interstate. She has held solo and group shows with Far to Go being her most recent solo show at the Lismore Regional Gallery in 2018.
