Byron Shire
Rosie is a born and raised Byron local who spent her youth teaching herself photorealism from her family home in Ewingsdale.
In her early 20’s, while studying at the National Art School, she was invited to take part in Australia’s largest international art commission – painting the ceiling of the Musee du quay Branly (Museum for Indigenous Arts) in Paris, which included study with artist John Murruwunjl in his Arnhem Land home.
She returned home from Paris to complete her BFA at Southern Cross Uni, and has received multiple art awards including five Peoples Choice Awards and an Emerging Artist Award at the Northern Rivers Portrait Prize (now the Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize) judged by Michael Zavros.
Rosie has a diverse range of art skills ranging from realism to abstract, and her commercial endeavours include hand-painted window art for Wide Open Road cafe, a bespoke mural for the Byron Bay General Store cafe and commissions for luxury guest house The Villa General.
Recently, inspired by the stories voiced by women, she has produced a series of work about restoring the feminine, which featured in her solo show Inner Worlds at The Old Pacific in Newrybar, September 2023.
Her second solo show Portals ran from 5 – 26 April at Art Kind Gallery in Byron, exploring moments of lucidity and aiming to cultivate optimism and reconnection.
Rosie is available for work ranging from set painting, murals, commercial projects, shop fit-outs, private commissions and tutoring.
