McGarry completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts (majoring in sculpture) at the National Art School, Sydney in 2021.
McGarry’s work has been exhibited at various galleries around Australia including The National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, ArtSpace on the Concourse, National Art School and Blacktown Arts Centre. He has been commissioned to create public art installations for Inner West Council NSW, George’s River City Council NSW, Willoughby City Council NSW and Moreland City Council VIC.
McGarry has also been awarded National Art School BFA Grad Show 2021 ‘James Ballaam Elsley Memorial Prize for Excellence in Drawing’ 2021, Peoples Choice in Art on the Greenway, 2019, Winner 4D award & High Commendation Sculpture, Newcastle Emerging Artist Prize, 2016 and Winner Environmental Art Award & High Commendation Sculpture, Blacktown City Art Award, 2010.
McGarry has passion in engaging the community in workshops based on ideas of mental health wellness around making and creating art. They have worked with Inner West Council, Georges River City Council alongside Advance Diversity Services, Penrith Regional Gallery, Lake Macquarie City Council and Lismore Regional Gallery.
Many of these workshops and projects led to role as an exhibition curator for Inner West Council and Georges River City Council, turning works from these workshops into exhibitions to celebrate community creativity.
McGarry is currently an Artist in the Converge Program 2024 As an innovative, inner-city, artist-in-residence and creative enterprises development program in Lismore NSW for the NSW Reconstruction Authority.
