Yao Mikami is a versatile artist and teacher originally from Japan, now living in Northern Rivers for the past decade. Yao’s artistic exploration centers on the visualization of the unseen—delving into emotions, presences, and imaginary realms hidden within the subconscious. Yao loves using natural pigments, especially indigo, inspired by her strong connection with nature. Besides painting, she creates mesmerizing images on glass trays for overhead projectors, part of groups called “Liquidelic” and “Awuwa.” Yao shares her passion by teaching art classes and workshops, aiming to spark creativity and imagination in her students. Her art journey is a blend of cultural influences, nature’s inspiration, and a passion for unveiling the unseen through diverse artistic expressions.
