Molly Townsend (she/her, b.1996) is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Australia, born and raised in Naarm/Melbourne and now living on Bundjalung country. Her work blends subgenres such as documentary, pictorialism and fantasy. She is interested in story telling through image making and challenging traditional notions of documentation through photography and painting.
Her work is deeply inspired from her natural environments of Australia, and blurs elements of reality and imagination with impressionistic visuals, transforming ordinary scenes into dreamscapes. Through a delicate play of light, shadow, and composition, her images dance with an otherworldly quality. Her paintings often complement her photographic work, revealing a unique interplay between the two art forms.
Molly would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which she lives and works. She pays her respects to the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and acknowledges that sovereignty has never been ceded.
