Gala Jane

Gala Jane is a research based mixed-media artist who uses text in her work to create a social commentary around women’s safety and mental health. Connecting with her community and incorporating her lived experiences, she uses this as a foundation to investigate and analyse areas of imbalance that needs attention from a wider audience.

Often using found objects, repetition and craft, Gala links these with powerful words and text to create new objects for reference. Her photography of figures and self-portraits are not only a documentation of these objects but also works that stand alone. In recent months Gala exhibited her first solo show, This Is Nothing New at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery where she highlighted statistics from various Australian surveys around women’s safety and presented these through life size paste-up photography.

In addition Gala is a muralist and signwriter, working with local businesses and galleries to create public and commercial art.
