Hiske Tas Bain is a multidisciplinary artist whose work blends surrealism, magical realism, symbolism, and nature into vivid visual narratives. Born in The Hague, Holland, and educated at the The Hague Royal Academy of Arts, The Free Academy of Arts, and the Royal Regent Academy of Arts in London, Bain developed an early sensitivity to the old masters, while also being influenced by Mondrian, Escher, Dada, and the dreamlike world of the surrealists.
Having lived in Paris, London, New York, Antwerp, and now Murwillumbah, Australia, Bain’s art carries the imprint of a life shaped by travel, cultural exchange, and spiritual inquiry. Her work reflects memories, dreams, landscapes, mythological imagery, and the beauty of natural forms, often infused with symbols inspired by Indigenous, Asian, and other global traditions.
Bain’s paintings invite viewers into a world where the ordinary becomes enchanted and reality is gently transformed into something more hopeful, healing, and expansive. Through rich color, intricate detail, and a strong sense of wonder, she explores the positive side of life, nature, and human experience.
Her work has been exhibited in the Netherlands, Belgium, the USA, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Australia. She continues to create art that celebrates beauty, imagination, and the spiritual and emotional depth found in everyday life.
