Gala Jane is a Lismore based emerging artist, curator and sign writer. Graduating with a Bachelor of Art and Design from Southern Cross University in 2020 she used to time during her studies to push her practice and curatorial endeavours.
Her arts practice began with a strong focus on new technologies and using computer programs to transform digitally designed objects into the physical through printing and cutting machinery. However, throughout her final year of studies, during the year of COVID, she has had to adapt her practice to continue to create from the home front. She has shifted the focus of her practice to more traditional crafts, using this in conjunction with the found objects that give her inspiration. She uses the connections between text and these found objects to present the fourth-wave feminist issues that she and her peers still experience today. She takes inspiration from the craftivists, the activists and the feminists to be the voice of her community.
She is a strong member of the artist community in Lismore where she collaborates with fellow artists to further the artistic presence within the area. In addition to her contemporary practice she works with local small businesses to create bespoke hand painted signage and murals.
