Clarence Valley
Cassandra-Lyn Palmer is a mixed media artist based in the gorgeous Clarence Valley, Northern New South Wales. Her work is as busy and varied as her life as an artist, teacher, wife and mum.
Her works are inspired not only from the natural landscape but also from daily life. Each work tells a different story, it can be about a particular place on her travels, or simply the act of putting the kids in the bath and adding too many bubbles. The stitching and dying of the paper connects to the notions of being a female artist and the idea of woman’s work. What society expects from a woman – she must to do it all – and do it well. The use of plant dyes in her work are experimental and multi-layered. It is as much about the medium and processes of making as with the experience of nature. These plant dyes can also be site specific and used to anchor a work to a particular place and time.
