Milena Galli was born in Rio, Brazil, to a family of artists. She completed a Bachelor degree in product design, after which she initiated a fashion label, ‘Bom Costume’, which she continued for two years.
Subsequently, Milena studied Creation and Co-ordination of Fashion. Then she briefly attended fashion courses at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London. Later, Milena returned to work in the Brazilian fashion industry. Designing for the labels ‘Totem’ and ‘Farm’ affirmed her love of colour, which remains at the core of her practice.
In 2008 Milena began painting murals in Brazil, also taking this enterprise to Indonesia and Australia. After two years working as a designer in Bali, Milena moved to Australia, where in 2020 she was introduced to ceramics.
Milena graduated from the Diploma of Ceramics at Lismore Tafe in 2023, winning an Excellence in Practice. Ceramics brings together elements of fire, water, air, and earth, supporting her feeling of connection to nature and the environment. She says that the process grounds her with mindfulness and presence.
In 2024 Milena attended to Eutopia Ceramic Residency, in Greece, exploring the ancient forms, raku technique and ash glazes.
Milena completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at TAFE also in 2024. She is broadening her exhibition experience by participating in selected group shows, achieving an Encouragement Award and The Lumberyard one month residency. The artist continues to expand her practice by mastering various media, allowing for a diverse expression of her ideas.
