Byron Shire
Born and raised in Cape Town, Diana Miller is an abstract painter, collage and assemblage artist living and working on Bundjalung land in Byron Bay.
Diana’s collage practice, as well as her background in graphic design, influence the geometric and shape-based nature of her work. Her natural affinity and love of colour is evident in all her paintings. She sees herself as a shapeshifter of forms, using techniques such as layering, assembling, deconstructing, morphing and revealing to create dialogues within her work. They exist as expressions of the self – what is hidden and what is revealed.
Diana tends to work in two distinct ways, fluctuating between loose and expressive and more formal and geometric treatments. Her wall assemblages and copper works are mostly structured and based in formal shapes that echo her love for mathematics and geometry. On the flipside, her passion for life, ease, joy and playfulness are important drivers behind her practice.
Diana completed 2 years at Byron School of Art, finishing in 2018 with the Graduate Award and a show at NRCG, Ballina. She has also held multiple solo exhibitions in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Tweed Regional Gallery and has been a finalist in the Clayton Utz, Lethbridge 10 000, BAM, Omnia and Wollumbin Prizes, She has completed commissions for clients in Sweden, Japan and the UK.
