Maiara Rocha Skarheim is an award-winning filmmaker and director of Look Right Productions, an independent studio specialising in documentary, arts, and educational storytelling.
Through Look Right Productions, Maiara has produced and directed a wide range of projects for leading organisations, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Art Gallery of NSW, Monash University, University of Sydney, UNSW, Botanic Gardens of Sydney, and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Her work spans documentaries, promotional campaigns, educational resources, and creative collaborations, often centring on social impact, sustainability, and cultural diversity.
Born in Belém, Pará, Brazil, to an Indigenous Brazilian mother and a Norwegian father, Maiara grew up between the contrasting cultures and landscapes of the Amazon and Scandinavia. This cross-cultural upbringing, along with her lifelong passion for art, nature, and storytelling, continues to shape her cinematic vision and creative practice.
After graduating from a Fine Arts high school in Norway, Maiara moved to Australia to pursue film, earning a Bachelor of Communications in Media Arts & Production from the University of Western Sydney and a Master of Media Arts & Production from the University of Technology Sydney. Her early career included editing roles at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) before she established Look Right Productions in 2011.
Through Look Right Productions, Maiara creates visually rich, inclusive stories that celebrate culture, community, and connection to place
