Byron Shire
A professional artist for over three decades, Heather almost accidentally stumbled into mosaics at a community college class one winter evening. There she fell irrevocably in love with the art form – the movement and texture, the sculptural capacity, the very tactile nature of the work. It has been her consuming artistic passion for over twenty years.
Although Heather creates quite contemporary art pieces, she practices mosaics using very traditional techniques, primarily working with a hammer and hardie to prepare her tesserae, her pieces. Her preferred materials are marble and smalti.
Heather has created mosaic and glass installations both locally and interstate, and has exhibited in local community shows and at The Lone Goat Gallery in Byron Bay. She opens her studio every year as part of the Open Studios, Ballina, Byron and Beyond Artists Trail, and exhibits each year in MAT (Murwillumbah Art Trail).
As well as being a practising artist, Heather teaches both mosaics and lead-lighting in her studio in Mullumbimby, in the hills behind Byron Bay, Australia.
