Byron Shire
Dettra Rose is an award-winning flash fiction author. She wrote her first flash in 2018, winning the inaugural Australian Writers’ Centre Furious Fiction prize – and a love affair was born.
Since then, her pieces have won and been placed in many international competitions and widely published online and in print. Two stories have been nominated for Best British/Irish Flash Fiction. She writes powerful stories in tiny wordcounts about love, breaking free, grief, kinship and rebecoming. Her first collection, The Rumba of Second Chance is available soon.
Dettra is a qualified teacher and workshop facilitator with twenty years of experience. After teaching English to refugees and students from around the globe, she now teaches people how to write stories within a limited wordcount, using a distilled, economy of language. She also offers writing consultations for those who call themselves writers and those who dare not.
Her flash workshops and courses are available for individuals and community organisations so people can craft stories easily, without getting bogged down in writing a book. We all have unique stories from our lives to share or ones that want to hatch in our imaginations. Dettra would love to help you write them and it might be easier than you think.
A born and bred Londoner, Dettra exchanged her big city life for the birdsong and relaxed, spacious shores of the Byron Shire. She lives with her almost non-verbal partner and a bunch of wildlife.
