The National Photographic Portrait Prize, Living Memory exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia’s aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects. This edition of the prize incorporates a year like no other: 2020. Accordingly, the title – Living Memory – acknowledges the period’s seismic events.
R J Poole received this year’s Distinction Award for the above image, Great Conjunction.
The Lismore based artist collaborates with various people who provide an alter ego in front of the camera. These alter egos symbolise the feminine aspect of R J’s psyche, the ‘anima’ – inspiring their signature body of work, the Anima Series.
