Claudia Gyr completed a potter’s apprenticeship in Switzerland, learning all facets of making a living as a potter in 1978.
After extensive travels she emigrated to Australia where she established her own pottery studio and gallery in 1993. Most of her time was devoted to making a living through production pottery, wholesale and teaching. She participated at the Gold Coast ceramic awards and was published in Ceramic/Art and Perceptions International.
In 2002 she closed her pottery studio and engaged in further studies completing a Master’s degree in Arts Therapy focusing on the creative process and mindfulness practices as a therapeutic intervention.
It is only after almost two decades, during Covid 19 with more time at hand, that she found her way back to the love of working with clay. Claudia now enjoys the slow way of hand building and with her new work has been a finalist of several ceramic awards.
